если вернуться к теме NEW YARDBIRDS
я поинтересовался у Лу Энн Реддон - сестры Фрэнка Рэддона, автора тома о LZ - ИХ мнением на сей счет
вот их отклик, если кому интересно - они настаивают на New Yardbirds
I have to tell you, though, that there ARE ads where the name "The New
Yardbirds" WAS used and the line-up was the group of Led Zeppelin's members.
The pieces we've seen include a poster from Surrey University, a newsletter
from Gladsaxe Teen Club and a news article in Danish. We were given
permission to reprint the contract you speak of in our book, where Page
committed The Yardbirds to that gig at Gladsaxe.
Frank has interviewed the Teen Club's house photographer and two other
people who attended that first-ever performance on Sept 7, 1968. The band
was also advertised as "The New Yardbirds" on signage at the venue sponsored
by Jolly Cola.
One of those people was the concert promoter for Bendix Records who then
took the band on its first Scandinavian tour because permanent tour manager,
Richard Cole, was in the U.S. getting ready for the arrival of Led Zeppelin.
(We also have ads from the early days in the U.S. showing the band's name
misspelled as "Len Zefflin" and "Led Zeppilen"!).
There was some talk on that short Scandinavian tour about the name change
and the upcoming recording of the debut album.
As it happens, I attended Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience in Toronto
a few weeks ago with that same Danish concert promoter and his wife, who
were there that first night at Gladsaxe Teen Club!
Frank had always found the name business confusing, too, and wanted to sort
it out based on physical evidence, which he was able to locate. People from
Greg Russo (Yardbirds authority) to Dave Lewis (Zeppelin authority) have now
accepted that the band actually DID play as The New Yardbirds in Scandinavia
and for at least one date in the UK before changing the name to Led
Zeppelin.
