THURSDAY AUGUST 25 1994
SOUTH BANK, LONDON
STUDIO TWO, LONDON TV STUDIOS
Set: Thank You/What Is And What Should Never Be/The Battle Of Evermore/Gallows Pole/The Rain Song/Since I've Been Loving You/Four Sticks/Friends/Kashmir/That's The Way.
Additional musicians used for the London filming are: Charlie Jones (bass), Porl Thompson (guitar/banjo), Michael Lee (drums), Najma Akhtar (vocals on 'The Battle Of Evermore'), Jim Sutherland (mandolin), Nigel Eaton (hurdy gurdy), Ed Shermur (organ/string arrangements) plus the Egyptian Ensemble and the London Metropolitan Orchestra.
Finally, after all the rumours, the MTV reunion becomes a reality. After an understandably nervous start and once into their stride, Jimmy and Robert proceed to turn back the clock with a superbly rehearsed set that more than does justice to the legacy. Highlights include the rarely performed 'Battle Of Evermore' with Najma Akhtar sharing vocals, a welcome revivals for 'Gallows Pole' and 'Four Sticks', again both only rarely played live with Zeppelin. 'Since I've Been Loving You' is now given an extra dimension with the addition of strings, and the new arrangement of 'Kashmir' where the deployment of the East and West orchestras take the song into uncharted territory. The whole atmosphere is one of joyous celebration. They have finally done it...
After the audience have left, Jimmy and Robert return to the stage to run through various takes of a new song titled 'Wonderful One' - in preparation for the next night's filming.(DL)
